Kathmandu City: Here you will visit the temple of the Living Goddess, who acknowledges the greetings of the devotees from the balcony of her temple residence. The Kumari Goddess: Chosen at the age of four or five, the Kumari Devi is the most important of the several living goddesses in Nepal. Selected using very strict criteria, she moves into the temple with her family, leaving only to attain a few festivals each year.

Swayambhunath: Perched on a hilltop on the southwestern part of Kathmandu, Swayambhunath is one of the most important religious and cultural sites in Nepal and is associated with the birth of the Kathmandu Valley civilization. Approximately 2000 years old, Swayambhunath stupa, is a dome 20 meters in diameter and 32 meters high and is made of brick and earth mounted by a conical spire capped by a pinnacle of copper gilt. The height of Swayambhunath also makes it a good vantage point and on clear sunny days one can see the Himalayas all the way to the east.

Pashupatinath: The temple of Pashupatinath located on the western banks of the Bagmati River on the north eastern side of Kathmandu, is one of the most important Hindu pilgrimage site in the world. Until recently Nepal was officially a Hindu Kingdom and Pashupatinath, which literally means “Lord of all Animals”, was considered the main protector deity of Nepal. Pashupatinath is said to have been discovered by a cow herder who dug up the area after seeing one of his cow’s coming to the spot and emptying its milk there. The inner sanctum of the temple has a lingam, a stone phallus with four faces around it. As one of the many forms of Lord Shiva, one of the three main gods of the Hindu Trinity, Pashupatinath draws Hindu pilgrims from all around the world especially on MahaShivaratri, the “Night of Shiva” which falls in early spring. Pashupatinath is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Bouddhanath: With a base of 82 meters in diameter, Bouddhanath is claimed to be the largest Buddhist stupa in the world. There are many legends attached to Bouddhanath, chief among which is that of the 5th century Lichivi King Manadev who built it to do penance. Lost and forgotten for centuries Bouddhanath was rediscovered in the 15th century from whence it slowly started gaining reputation among Tibetan Buddhists especially after the 19th century Rana Prime Minister appointed a Tibetan monk as its chief abbot. Today there are more than 50 monasteries surrounding Bouddhanath which is also one of the seven Monument Zones which make up the Kathmandu Valley World Heritage Sites.

Day 04
Sarangkot and Half day Pokhara sightseeing tour

Early morning visit Sarangkot for the sunrise view (subject to weather conditions).

Sarangkot: Start your day off with a bang and grab an incredible view of the Nepal sunrise on this 2.5-hour tour. A professional guide will bring you from your hotel to the small hilltop of Sarangkot that contains a breathtaking view of the sunrise, the Annapurna range, and Pokhara. Peek over the valleys and grab your camera for this true introduction to Nepal. Sarangkot is one of the most popular destinations, attended by tourists year after year. Here, you will see the famed and magnificent sunrise and view of the Annapurna range. Watch in wonder as the colors dance over the top of the mountains, displaying nature in its truest form. As the first rays of the sun gradually dissipate darkness in the lower plains of Pokhara valley, the scenery will simply astound you. While you take in the sunset, you may also partake in some sightseeing on the hill. If you look south, you will be able to see a view of the city Pokhara and its lake on the north-western outskirts of the city.

Return back to the hotel for breakfast en-route visit Bindabassini temple.

Bindhyabaseni Temple: Pokhara is a popular destination in Nepal, filled with many fascinating sights for tourists to investigate. One of the most popular and most visited of these is the intriguing Bindabasini Temple, known locally as Bindhyabasini Mandir. Standing proudly atop a hill, this striking temple looks calmly over the bustling city of Pokhara.

Later visit Devi’s Fall + Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave + Tibetan refugee camp + Tal Barahi+ 1 hr boat ride on Phewa lake.

Davi’s Falls: It is a waterfall located at Pokhara. The water forms an underground tunnel after reaching the bottom. This tunnel is approximately 500 feet long and runs 100 feet below ground level. On 31 July 1961, a Swiss couple Davi went swimming but the woman drowned in a pit because of the overflow. Her body was recovered 3 days later in river Phusre with great effort. Her father wished to name it “Davi’s falls” after her. Its Nepali name is Patale Chango, which means “underworld waterfall”. This is one of the most visited places in Nepal. After exiting the tunnel, the water passes through a cave called Gupteshwor Mahadev or “cave beneath the ground”. The Phewa Lake dam is the water source. The cave also acts as a tourism site because it has complex designs and people even forget the way inside the cave.

Gupteshwor Mahadev: Across the road from Devi’s Falls, this venerated cave contains a huge stalagmite worshipped as a Shiva lingam. The ticket allows you to clamber through a tunnel behind the shrine, emerging in a damp cavern adjacent to the thundering waters of Devi’s Falls.

Phewa Lake: Phewa Tal is the travelers’ focal point in Pokhara, and is the second largest lake in Nepal. In contrast to the gaudy tourist development of Lakeside, the steep southwestern shore is densely forested and alive with birdlife. The lush Rani Ban, or Queen’s Forest, bestows an emerald hue to the lake, and on a clear day the Annapurna Mountains are perfectly reflected on its mirror surface.
